As a non-binary creator emerging from Europe’s underground techno scene,Métaraph is part of a wave of modern artists who craft their brand around an artistic identity intertwined with personal expression, clubbing history, and community. They grew up in a conservative fishing village in southern Italy before seeking new, open-minded environments. In moving to London in 2014, they immersed themselves in queer nightlife, initially as a dancer and eventually as a DJ. The journey stops in Bucharest on Friday, November 7, as Control Club is introduced to Métaraph's emotionally charged artistic universe.
This dance background includes five years of training in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary styles; skills that have informed their fluid and expressive stage presence. As a non-binary artist, Métaraph considers visibility and authenticity political acts and has called for more inclusive practices in club culture across Europe and globally. They have publicly supported the creation of safer spaces, queer-centered platforms, and better representation in nightlife and music industry infrastructures.
Métaraph’s DJ sets are fast, theatrical, and emotional, integrating visual styling with a performative energy on witchcraft. They're also known for wearing jewellery from their own brand, INAUREM, which specializes in avant-garde face and body pieces. INAUREM gained international attention, and their pieces have been worn by artists such as Doja Cat. Launched in 2016, INAUREM was inspired by their Maori ancestry and the visual cultures of London’s goth, punk, and queer nightlife. Although the brand is currently on hiatus due to expanding touring responsibilities, Métaraph has expressed interest in reviving it in the future.
Métaraph has performed internationally across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Notable livestream performances include multiple appearances on HÖR Berlin and a 2024 Boiler Room set in Cologne. Other recent appearances of note include a B2B set with Ellen Allien at NAME Festival and a headline slot at Sommerlights in Germany. In Berlin, they are a resident artist at We Are Not Alone and Gegen. They are also resident at Club Elastica in Vilnius and Riktus in Lisbon. Their early performance career in London included running the Orpheus collective, which staged experimental nightlife events combining fashion, dance, and visual art.
In 2020, Métaraph released their debut EPMotus Animi on TSA Records. It included four tracks and drew on the structures of hard techno to explore cathartic transformation. This was followed by a series of appearances on underground compilations that blended hard techno, neo-rave, ambient, trance, and industrial elements with emotional and narrative-driven intensity. Métaraph contributed the track "Levitation" to Expel Your Demons'Father, Please Forgive My Sins II compilation, "Contaminations" to DURCH, and "Galloping Through the Clouds" to Oxid Records’Firestarter VA. In 2022, they released "Color Of People" in collaboration with Sina XX on theBody to Body II: Paris–Berlin compilation. Later that year, their solo track "Dulcet Acridness" was featured onWe Are Not Alone Pt. 6 from Ellen Allien’s label BPitch.
As Métaraph remains an uncompromising figure in contemporary electronic music, their body of work, spanning clubs, catwalks, and collaborative platforms, continues to evolve in exciting, engaging, and accessible new ways. Through their commitment to pushing boundaries in both form and community, Métaraph continues to transform dance floors into spaces of possibility and resistance.
