Loxy emerged in the early 1990s through his involvement with London’s pirate radio stations like Eruption FM and Underground FM. He quickly became a mainstay at pivotal London raves such as Desire and Thunder & Joy, where he was celebrated for his sets that featured darker, heavier dubplates. By the mid-90s, he was integral to UK drum & bass institutions Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware, captivating audiences at venues like Blue Note and The End. His performances were noted for their depth and intensity, setting a high bar for any DJ following him. Continuing this well into the 2020s, Loxy is set to perform at the latest instalment of Odyssey Sessions at Control Club on Saturday, May 4.

In addition to his DJing accolades, Loxy has an extensive discography and has been influential in the production sphere since around 1993-1994. He has released numerous tracks and albums, including notable works like Attention Seeker with Quartz and New Age with Resound. His releases have appeared on prestigious labels, including R&S Records, RAM Records, Planet Mu, and his own Cylon Recordings. Noteworthy collaborations have seen him work alongside artists like Skeptical, with whom he released the track Bongo Mania. Other collaborations have featured everyone from Usual Suspects, Dylan, and Bad Company to Resound, Isotone, and Ink. His recent work includes projects on Dispatch Recordings and contributions to Hospital Records’ 25-year compilation. Ahead of his upcoming Bucharest appearance, we caught Loxy for the last edition of 5 Questions For…

If you could only play one drum & bass track for the rest of your life, which would it be?

I wouldn’t choose a dnb tune, I would probably pick something from Motown or something by NaS.

What’s the most unusual sound you’ve ever sampled?

For me there is no such thing as an unusual sample as most things I sample could probably be considered unusual.

If you could travel back in time to any rave from the past, which one would you choose to drop a set at?

If I could travel back in time and play a dj set at an event it would probably be FANTAZIA CASTLE DONNINGTON BACK IN 92, that party was incredible.

Do you have any superstitions or rituals before going on stage?

I have no pre-djing rituals. If you were to create a new subgenre of drum & bass, what would you call it? I wouldn’t create a new name for a sub genre, we have too many already some of which have annoying names.
