ctrl NIGHTS: JakoJako [DE], Marie Pravda [CZ]

NIGHTS DE, CZ TECHNO
23:00

JakoJako’s musical path started with an urge to play with sound and a desire for more. Sibel Koçer spent several years buried in manuals, patch cables, and messing with a DIY synth before leaving her nursing career to work at Berlin’s synth shop institution SchneidersLaden.

With a studious approach, JakoJako uses fluency in the language of sound to convey emotion. Her tracks are experimental and intense, tying together different stylistic ideas through sound design, sharp production and a sense of melody. Pandemic restrictions led her to global audiences’ attention through streams with HÖR, FACT Magazine’s Patch Notes, and Electronic Beats. She joined ARTE, Innervisions and United We Stream alongside Âme and Frank Wiedermann, did remixes for New Order and Martin Gore, released tracks on BPitch, Tresor and Figure. Her debut album ‘Metamorphose' earned critical acclaim, as well.

Now a Berghain resident who also dabs with motion sensor dance projects with dancers at Superbooth, Kraftwerk Berlin and at the Royal Albert Hall with Bonobo, she’s really coming to the fore, leaving crowds wondering what boundaries she will push next.

Marie Pravda’s journey is just as much about being self-made. Developing into an avid digger during long shifts in gloomy basements and online, the Prague-based DJ and DIY promoter took the Czech scene by storm with her savage take on a growing range of club music.

Her tireless dedication to music has exposed her to surroundings like the resident collective Ankali & Planeta Za (CZ), Panorama Bar (DE), Draaimolen Festival (NL), Garage Noord (NL), Jasna 1 (PL), and Laut (ES). She recorded for online radios and mix series such as Knekelhuis, hereandthere, Galactic Funk, and appeared on online broadcasts of NTS, Hör, Mutant, Kiosk, Operator among many others. In 2021-2023 she was a member of the artist roster of Gravity Network, an international initiative for club culture exchange in Europe and beyond.

When she settles into a DJ booth, Marie Pravda weaves journeys from the depths of the psyche to peaks of rapture. While she is perfectly capable of generating similar energy in her recordings, it’s the fierce, uncompromising push & pull with the physical crowd that charges her selection and mixing. She is always proving her skill at exchanging energy with the crowd on the dancefloor and convincing dancers that music is the best outlet for storytelling.
