Tapan @ Cabinet
Tapan is the Belgrade-based production duo of one of the residents at 20/44 club Nebojša Bogdanović (Schwabe), and Goran Simonoski, co-founder of Dis-patch festival and the producer behind the music projects Belgradeyard Sound System, Piece of Shh, and a number of theater scores. Both producers are present in the Belgrade music and night life since the 1990s, and are now joining forces to use their musical experience in a collaborative creative act of producing songs under the Tapan moniker.
They have released three EPs so far, with at least as many in the pipeline for this and next year. “Volumes” was released at the end of 2015 for Scott Fraser’s Crimes Of The Future label, while the second one “The City” was out on WT Records founded by Willie Burns. Both records attracted attention on dance floors across the globe. They got remixed by the infamous Dutch producer Drvg Cvltvre, while Black Merlin drops them a remix on the latest “Tarantella” EP for Malka Tuti from Israel.
Tapan is not an ordinary “techno” project, and escapes all easy categorizations. The project evolved into a full live quartet, building connections between electronic sonics, jazz improvisation and unique pulse of eastern percussive orientalism. The band joined the two producers with saxophone player Jamal Al Kiswani (Belgradeyard, Belgrade Noise Society), and renowned Serbian percussionist Feđa Franklin (Fish’n’Oil), but the scope of collaborations with other instrumentalists keeps expanding. Their long-awaited “Europa” EP, followed by a debut album live concerts are definitely not to be missed in the coming years.
