Transglobal Undergound

Transglobal Underground are returning to Bucharest with a full live show on May 18th, being joined on stage for the first time in Romania by the extraordinary Natacha Atlas.

There are few acts in the UK with as strong an influence or as complex a legacy as the mysteriously legendary Transglobal Underground. Trying to describe what it is and what it was has defeated the most eloquent of journalists and those involved in TGU itself have made no effort to help, refusing to define themselves on the grounds that it wasn’t their job to do so whilst also rejecting any signs anyone attempted to hang on them.

Jakuzi

Just Announced: Jakuzi (TR) - 19.10

Jakuzi turned heads in 2017 with the release of their debut album “Fantezi Müzik” which showcased their modern Turkish underground music to the world. This record saw the duo go against what you would stereotypically expect from a male-fronted band out of Istanbul – Turkish music is not necessarily known for being a genre where men are introspective – but Jakuzi’s gothic sensibility addressed the personal psychological issues they were facing.

Zimmerman

Just Announced: Zimmerman (BE) - 25.10

Belgian dream pop-rock act Zimmerman, the new musical endeavour by Balthazar bassist Simon Casier, will perform in Bucharest this fall – October 25 at Control Club.

Vieux Farka Toure

“Exquisite return to the Malian source …a record that urgently puts Mali, a musical powerhouse, in the global spotlight. Outstanding.” The Guardian

One of the most influential guitarists from Africa, often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Touré and his live band will perform for the first time in Bucharest – June 1st at Control Club. Merging much-loved traditional Malian musical styles with distinct elements of blues, the composer is known for his high-profile collaborations with artists such as Khruangbin.

There’s a popular proverb in Mali that says life’s family name is change. It’s a dictum that Vieux Farka Touré, son of acclaimed musician Ali Farka Touré, has followed throughout his career over a series of adventurous cross-border explorations and collaborations. Yet there’s another more universal adage that says to know where you’re going, you must know where you’ve come from. It’s that essential human need to embrace one’s heritage that lies at the heart of Farka Touré’s latest album, Les Racines (World Circuit, 2022).
